Teen Forest Lab: Water Quality

Join a Fernbank Educator in this hands-on workshop to discover how scientists determine if a freshwater system is healthy. Participants will sample water sources to test for common indicators of ecosystem health such as pH, turbidity, and macroinvertebrate diversity. They will also understand the impact of pollution on aquatic ecosystems.

  • This 3-hour workshop will take place in Fernbank Forest; the forest terrain is uneven and steep at times. Trails are not ADA accessible.

  • Water bottle, sunscreen, and bug spray recommended.

  • Wear sturdy, comfortable shoes that are okay to get dirty and WET.

  • In the case that Fernbank must cancel the workshop due to inclement weather, registered participants will be contacted by noon the day prior, and a refund will be issued.

This workshop is for teens only (13-17 years old) and includes general admission. Chaperones are welcome to purchase admission and visit the museum during the workshop but will not be admitted to the class.
