Teen Forest Lab: Owl Pellet Shadowboxes
Become an ornithologist for a day in a hands-on teen workshop led by a Fernbank educator. Participants will dissect real owl pellets to uncover tiny bones and learn how scientists use these clues to study what owls eat and their place in the food web. Teens will get up close with basic skeletal anatomy, learn how to identify prey species, and explore the important role owls play in ecosystems. Then, they will then use the found bones to make a creative shadowbox display.
- This 2-hour workshop will take place at Fernbank Museum.
- In the case that Fernbank must cancel the workshop, registered participants will be contacted by noon the day prior, and a refund will be issued.
This workshop is for teens only (13-17 years old) and includes general admission. Chaperones are welcome to purchase admission and visit the museum during the workshop but will not be admitted to the class.
